Tesla began construction of a dedicated ~5.2M sq-ft Optimus humanoid factory at Giga Texas — foundations done and steel up to four floors by mid-June 2026 — aimed at an (aspirational) long-term 10M robots/year, with a separate ~1M/yr first line being prepped in Fremont. Over 1,000 Optimus Gen-3 units already work inside Tesla's plants. Easily the most aggressive humanoid mass-production buildout announced, though the headline capacity is a long-range target, not current output.

Tesla began public Austin robotaxi rides with no human safety monitor in the car (22 Jan 2026); by June it covered the entire Austin metro (~245 sq mi, ~13–20 Model Ys), though remote operators can still intervene.
